Abstract: The 5th Bergey's International Meeting on Microbial Systematics (BISMiS) was a landmark event in the field of microbiology, held from November 6-9, 2023, at the Baiyun International Convention Center in Guangzhou, China. The meeting's theme, "Microbial Systematics in the Meta-Data Era: Opportunities and Challenges," was chosen to reflect the current state of microbiology, where data-driven approaches are reshaping our understanding of microbial diversity and classification. The event aimed to bring together leading experts from around the world to share insights, discuss recent advancements, and explore future directions in microbial systematics.
