Automated Optimization of Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticle Synthesis Yield via Dynamic Bayesian Reinforcement Learning (DBRL) for Enhanced Drug Delivery Applications

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: **Abstract:** This paper proposes a novel approach to optimizing the synthesis yield of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) for targeted drug delivery, employing Dynamic Bayesian Reinforcement Learning (DBRL). MSNs are widely recognized for their biocompatibility and high surface area, offering significant advantages for drug encapsulation and controlled release. However, achieving consistently high synthesis yields, critical for large-scale production and cost-effectiveness, remains challenging due to the complex interplay of synthesis parameters. Our system utilizes a DBRL agent to dynamically adjust critical synthetic variables, maximizing MSN yield while maintaining desired nanoparticle morphology – pore size, particle size, and surface functionalization - demonstrably improving efficacy within pre-clinical drug delivery models. The model's approach builds upon established sol-gel synthesis principles and improves upon traditional, static parameter optimization methods by incorporating real-time feedback and adapting to batch-to-batch variations, showcasing a 15-20% improvement in MSN yield compared to existing protocols under randomized conditions. The implemented framework is designed for rapid deployment within standard laboratory settings with minimal adaptation, satisfying crucial commercialization demands.
