Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) in Hair Restoration - A Clinical and Patient-Centered Analysis
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) represents one of the most advanced refinements in the field of surgical hair restoration. Unlike conventional methods such as Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), DHI integrates extraction and implantation into a single, continuous step using the Choi Implanter Pen. This innovation reduces graft ischemia time, allows precise control of implantation angle and depth, and enhances survival outcomes. A narrative literature review (2010–2024), combined with clinical data from 125 patients treated at ClinMedica (2022–2024), was analyzed. DHI achieved graft survival rates above 90–95%, rapid recovery (2–3 days to resume normal activity), and high satisfaction (>85%). Complications were rare and minor. Compared to FUE and FUT, DHI provided superior density (up to 50 FU/cm²), naturalness, and minimal scarring, though session size remains smaller (1,500–3,500 grafts). This paper concludes that DHI is a cornerstone of modern hair restoration, offering reliable outcomes, natural aesthetics, and minimal morbidity when performed with standardized protocols and skilled surgical
