Abstract: This scholarly article explores the essential role of causal inference and experimental design in distinguishing genuine cause-and-effect relationships from mere correlations across multiple disciplines. The paper examines theoretical frameworks, including potential outcomes and structural causal models, analyzes randomized controlled trials as the gold standard for establishing causality, and evaluates quasi-experimental alternatives when randomization isn't feasible. Through a comprehensive examination of methodological approaches and their applications in business, healthcare, product development, and public policy, the article demonstrates how robust causal inference methodologies significantly improve decision quality, reduce ineffective interventions, and enhance resource allocation. This article synthesizes evidence from multiple studies to provide practical insights for researchers and practitioners seeking to move beyond associational findings toward actionable causal knowledge in increasingly complex data environments.
