Type: article
Abstract: Background: Erythema nodosum is the most frequent form of panniculitis, Its association with celiac disease remains uncommon, particularly in children. Case presentation: We report the case of a child presenting with recurrent erythema nodosum without gastrointestinal symptoms. Laboratory findings revealed severe iron deficiency despite prolonged oral supplementation. Serologic testing demonstrated elevated anti-transglutaminase IgA antibodies. Duodenal biopsy confirmed total villous atrophy with intraepithelial lymphocytosis confirming the diagnosis of coeiac disease. A gluten-free diet was introduced, leading to clinical and biological improvement. Conclusion: This case illustrates that celiac disease may present solely with extra-digestive manifestations such as erythema nodosum in children.
