Abstract: This article examines the transformative impact of autonomous API testing in revolutionizing software quality engineering practices in modern development ecosystems. As organizations increasingly adopt microservices architectures, cloud-native applications, and continuous delivery pipelines, traditional testing methodologies have proven inadequate for addressing the complexity and pace of contemporary software development and scale of contemporary software deployments. The article explores how artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies enable a paradigm shift from conventional test automation to AI-driven, adaptive, self-healing test infrastructures that evolve alongside the systems they validate and dynamically adapt to system changes. By analyzing key dimensions—AI-driven test generation, self-healing test infrastructure, intelligent test oracles and real-world implementations—the article demonstrates how autonomous testing approaches enhance test coverage, reduce maintenance burden, and improve defect detection while accelerating release cycles. The integration of large language models, reinforcement learning, anomaly detection, and probabilistic assertion techniques represents a fundamental reconceptualization of software quality engineering that addresses the unique challenges of complex, rapidly evolving API ecosystems. By analyzing these advancements, the article highlights the potential of autonomous API testing to address the scalability, efficiency, and reliability challenges inherent in contemporary software development.
