Comprehensive Literature Review on Smile Analysis and Design for Geriatric Full Mouth Rehabilitation with Dental Implants

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: As the global geriatric population continues to grow, there is an increasing need for specialized dentalcare that addresses the unique challenges associated with aging. This comprehensive literature reviewexplores the integration of smile analysis and digital design tools in full mouth rehabilitation using dentalimplants for elderly patients. The review synthesizes existing research on age-related anatomical andphysiological changes that impact smile parameters, highlighting the principles of prosthodonticplanning and the advantages and limitations of current techniques. (Sato et al., 2020)Emphasis is placedon the importance of a patient-centered, interdisciplinary approach that includes advanced digital toolsfor precise treatment planning. Additionally, the review discusses the challenges associated with treatinggeriatric patients, including age-related bone and soft tissue changes, complex medical histories, andsocioeconomic barriers to care. The findings underscore the clinical significance of tailored, long-termrehabilitation strategies that enhance function, esthetics, and overall quality of life for elderlyindividuals. Future directions recommend advancing digital technology integration, addressingdisparities in access to care, and refining patient-centered protocols to meet the evolving needs of thisvulnerable population.(Chen et al., 2023)
