A Study on the Improvement of Intelligent Multi-Dimensional Road Tunnel Fire Monitoring Response System through Domestic and International Code Analysis

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper examines the automatic fire detection system and communication system for tunnels from an engineering perspective through a comparative analysis centered on domestic fire safety standards and international standards such as the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), and outlines the areas that need to be revised and supplemented in the future improvement work of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's road tunnel disaster prevention guidelines. In addition, it examines the "strategic position" and application problems of the automatic fire detection system in tunnel fires through an actual tunnel fire statistics survey. The results of the analysis show that, first, more active regulation is needed for hazardous materials that account for most of the causes of fires in tunnels, and penalties should be imposed through surprise inspections of transport vehicles, etc.In addition, it is necessary to adopt and apply various monitoring methods such as traffic volume analysis (Doppler Radar), noise analysis in tunnels, fan discharge detectors, and detection sensors using environmental compensation methods, moving away from the past tunnel monitoring methods that depend solely on human methods.Second, it is necessary to strengthen the functions of radio communication and emergency phone by building an integrated communication network that enables multi-dimensional monitoring and response, which is the optimal means (Optimum Condition).Lastly, it is necessary to establish a tunnel disaster prevention policy that prioritizes life safety (Life Safety Oriented). To this end, more attention and investment are required in securing alternative evacuation routes, staging areas, and collecting areas.Suppose the 'Road Tunnel Disaster Prevention Facility Installation and Management Guidelines' are revised in line with the revision of related laws and regulations, along with the continuous development of various advanced disaster prevention technologies and tunnel excavation technologies in the future. In that case, it is expected that the 'Road Tunnel Disaster Prevention Facility Installation and Management Guidelines' will be prepared with more secure disaster prevention capabilities.
