The Significance of Teaching 'magnetic Semiconductors and Spintronics' for Scientific and Technological Development and the Future Prospects of the Field
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper examines the significance of teaching magnetic semiconductors and spintronics within higher education by applying a qualitative pedagogical analysis. The study reviews theoretical foundations of the field, highlights its technological applications such as magnetoresistive random-access memory (MRAM), spintronic sensors, quantum computing platforms, and neuromorphic devices, and explores how these concepts can be effectively integrated into curricula. Specific teaching methodologies, including problem-based learning (PBL), flipped classroom, and STEM/STEAM integration, are analyzed as strategies to enhance student engagement. Practical examples such as laboratory demonstrations of magnetoresistance and spin Hall effects are also discussed. The results emphasize both scientific relevance—introducing novel concepts like GMR, TMR, and spin Hall effect—and pedagogical outcomes, including the development of critical thinking, interdisciplinary knowledge, ICT-based skills, and readiness for international research collaboration. The discussion further evaluates challenges related to infrastructure and resources, while concluding that the integration of spintronics into education is essential for aligning physics teaching with future technological and scientific progress.
