TGRM Whitepaper 4 — From Simulation to Application: Adaptive Threshold Repair Across Engineering and Biology

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This fourth whitepaper in the TGRM series extends the Targeted Gradient Repair Mechanism (TGRM) from simulation into cross-domain application. Building on Whitepaper 3, which demonstrated that adaptive thresholds outperform continuous and fixed repair under clustered hazards, this work introduces the Law of Adaptive Repair: “Sustained autonomy is maximized when repair activation scales with hazard intensity, rather than being constant or fixed.” Through conceptual modeling and toy simulations, we show that this principle holds across domains: Drones: Adaptive repair extends flight time while conserving battery resources. Satellites: Adaptive shielding mitigates radiation bursts with minimal cost. Biology: Adaptive stress responses (e.g., oxidative defense) balance survival with metabolic efficiency. A comparison table and simulation figures highlight the universality of adaptive repair strategies. The paper closes with a vision for a general theory of repair, positioning adaptive thresholds as a unifying law of resilience for engineering, biology, and AI-driven autonomy. This release strengthens the case for adaptive TGRM as a candidate foundational principle for designing robust systems and understanding biological survival mechanisms. Release Note (v4.0): This marks the official public release of TGRM Whitepaper 4, consolidating theory, simulations, and cross-domain applications into a single edition. It introduces the Law of Adaptive Repair as a candidate unifying principle of resilience across engineering, biology, and AI-driven autonomy.
