Commerce and Electromagnetic Theory: Exploring parallels and applying analogies.
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In this paper we explore formal analogies between financial aspects of commerce and electromagnetic theory, leveraging properties from first principles that arise necessarily from the underlying physics and mathematics. Using a single axiom to underpin the analogy, we derive findings relating to wealth, transactional values, inflation and profit, and also offer deconstructions relating to consumption, production and productivity. In particular, we establish a direct coupling to energy and thus thermodynamics.= We observe how both spatial and temporal domains must be considered, and show how time-dependent vector fields - and encapsulating concepts like capacitors and inductors - can usefully be applied. We envision that further investigation of vector fields may yield economic insights.
