Takayasu arteritis, ocular ischemic syndrome, and neovascular glaucoma—A case report

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Takayasu arteritis (TA) is an idiopathic, autoimmune rare inflammatory granulomatous large vessel vasculitis affecting males more than females. Ocular involvement occurs in up to 45% of cases due to ocular hypoperfusion. The most common ocular manifestations are Takayasu retinopathy and neovascular glaucoma. Central retinal artery occlusion and anterior ischemic optic neuropathy are rare manifestations of TA. The mortality rate in ocular ischemic patients is quite high, secondary to cardiovascular disease (66%) and stroke. Herein, we are presenting a case of unilateral neovascular glaucoma, anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, and Takayasu retinopathy as a complication of TA.
