The Law of Adaptive Repair — Flagship Research Edition (v3.2)

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Resilient systems do not win by working all the time—they win by working hardest when hazards spike. This research formalizes that idea as the Law of Adaptive Repair: repair effort should scale with hazard intensity. Using simulation-based studies across multiple domains—clustered hazards, senescence burden, mitochondrial energy stability, rhythm control, and nanoscale actuation—we compare adaptive thresholds to continuous and fixed strategies. In every simulation tested, the adaptive policy outperformed continuous or fixed repair and frequently approached an oracle baseline (no foreknowledge), suggesting that near-optimal resilience can emerge from proportionate vigilance rather than prediction. What’s inside: Clear, ASCII-safe manuscript (v3.2) with black-and-white figures optimized for print. Appendix A (pseudocode): a one-page, plug-and-play implementation of Adaptive Repair Calculus (ARC) and ARC-BF suitable for quick prototyping. Transparent framing: results are simulation-based proofs-of-principle; no clinical or field claims are made. Why it matters: Unifies a simple control rule across biology, engineering, AI autonomy, and nanoscale medicine. Provides a practical baseline for designing systems that conserve resources during calm periods and deploy them when it counts.
