Abstract: This study presents an educational innovation project implemented at the University of the Basque Country, aiming to enhance journalism students' competencies in journalistic writing through active engagement with Web 2.0 tools and citizen journalism practices. In collaboration with the Basque public media entity EiTB, students published journalistic pieces on the eitb24.com platform, specifically within the “Periodismo ciudadano/zuKZri” space. The project encouraged the production of multimedia and hypertextual content, aligning with the multidirectional and participatory nature of digital communication. Through this experience, students developed critical skills in news writing, editorial responsibility, and media interaction. Despite technical limitations and varied audience engagement, results showed increased motivation, autonomy, and awareness of professional journalistic standards among participants. This project not only bridged the academic and professional spheres but also demonstrated the pedagogical value of integrating digital literacy and real-world practice in journalism education. The findings highlight the relevance of competency-based learning and digital integration in fostering meaningful educational outcomes in communication studies
