Impact of different mycorrhizal species on fruit drop and quality attributes of plum cv. Satluj Purple

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Mycorrhizal fungi are mutualistic symbiotic associations among fungi and plants and offer agronomic benefits. They enhance nutrient assimilation and promote overall plant growth. The recent investigation aimed to assess the impact of different mycorrhizal species on fruit drop management with the enhancement of fruit quality parameters of plums. Among the different treatments, Rhizophagus fasciculatus (formerly known as Glomus fasciculatum) reduced fruit drop by 38.26%, leading to the highest fruit yield (44.58 kg/tree) and biochemical properties, while the lowest fruit yield (34.99 kg/tree) and 42.58% fruit drop were observed in untreated plants. Moreover, Oidiodendron echinulatum and Serendipita indica were significant after R. fasciculatus for fruit quality improvement. These mycorrhizas were found to be better at the absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which accounted for better quality and effectiveness in reducing fruit drop. Hence, the application of R. fasciculatus mycorrhizal species proves beneficial not only for mitigating the issue of fruit drop but also for intensifying the caliber of fruit and overall productivity of plum fruit.
