Tiglylcarnitine and renal function decline in type 2 diabetes
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: To study whether acylcarnitines are associated with the decline of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in type 2 diabetes in two prospective cohorts of patients with type 2 diabetes. Forty acylcarnitine were measured and the association with eGFR changes over time (mL/minute per 1.73 m2) was analysed.Eleven out of the 40 acylcarnitines studied were significantly associated with eGFR decline after Bonferroni correction. All 11 molecules were internally validated and remained significantly associated also after adjustment for several confounders.Tiglylcarnitine and methylglutarylcarnitine were also associated with GFR decline in the external validation sample.
