European Health Data Space: the new EU regulation and next steps for Norway

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In this Research Data Insider, Elisabeth Hagen from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), will talk about the new EU regulation on the European Health Data Space (EHDS). It is one of 14 planned European data spaces and will create a common framework for the use and exchange of electronic health data across the EU. From a research perspective EHDS will provide a secure and efficient route for researchers to access FAIR health data across Europe. The NIPH is working on implementing the EHDS to streamline access to health data for secondary purposes, such as research and policy-making. Elisabeth will in the webinar introduce EHDS to the RDA Norway community and also talk about how NIPH and collaborative institutions plans to implement the EHDS to facilitate easier access to health data for secondary use in Norway and across borders. The presentation is part of the Research data insider series in the autumn of 2025. The global research data community produces extensive knowledge and expands the practice of data management and FAIR data sharing. Yet, it is challenging and time-consuming to stay up to date. In the research data insider, the training and outreach group in RDA-Norway invites speakers from the international research data community to talk about current issues and outputs. With this series the Norwegian RDA node wishes to create awareness, engagement and knowledge exchange regarding the many topics addressed and issues resolved through work in the global RDA community and other research data communities.
