Abstract: The history of the genus is complex and convoluted and summarized by André (2005). The type species designated by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN. 2008) is Tydeus spathulatus Oudemans, 1929 (consequently, it is also the type species of the family and superfamily).
