Abstract: The article presents the journalistic activity of Krystyna Starczewska in the 1970s. Krystyna Starczewska was a teacher, philosopher, founder, and director of the Bednarska Secondary School. In the 1970s, she became involved in scientific, social, and opposition activities. She actively participated in independent initiatives, such as the The Workers' Defense Committee and the Society of Scientific Courses. After 1980, following the outbreak of strikes, she became a leader of "Solidarność" in the field of education, playing an important role in the Education Experts' Team and in the creation of independent publishing initiatives. The aim of this study is to analyze Krystyna Starczewska’s journalistic activity in the 1970s and to make an attempt to connect the values and ideas concerning freedom, independence, and autonomy, present in her texts, with the development of her pedagogical thought and the concept of a democratic school, which would be realized in 1989. The analysis is based on Krystyna Starczewska’s articles published in the "Magazyn Rodzinny" between 1974–1980, as well as original interviews conducted in 2024. The article also based on archival sources and a review of literature.
