Artificial intelligence and psychology: new frontiers in the digital and virtual fields

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized many sectors of contemporary society, including psychology, opening new perspectives and challenges in the relationship between the human mind and advanced technology. This phenomenon marks a paradigm shift towards digital humanism, a concept that reflects the increasingly intimate interaction between humans and intelligent technologies. Futuristic movies such as I, Robot envision a world in which humans coexist daily with robotic companions, a vision that today seems parallel to the reality in which conversations with chatbots can develop meaningful emotional bonds. The release of the first version of ChatGPT on November 30, 2022, officially marked the entry into the era of transformational conversational agents, or chatbots, profoundly influencing how we perceive and interact with technology in our everyday lives. This paper aims to explore the AI landscape as it relates to psychology. It provides a critical and informative overview of how Artificial Intelligence is transforming the field of psychology, highlighting emerging opportunities and key ethical considerations that need to be addressed and considered in the future development of advanced digital therapy.
