From Diet to Decay: Nutritional Risk Factors for Oral Disease

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This research paper, “Diet to Decay: Nutritional Risk Factors of Oral Disease” reviews the vital connection between diet and oral health. Drawing on existing literature, it examines how dietary choices influence the onset and progression of oral diseases, particularly dental caries. The paper discusses how frequent consumption of fermentable carbohydrates and sugary foods encourages cariogenic bacterial activity, while nutrient rich foods such as those high in fibre and dairy products can help protect against tooth decay. It also explores the role of malnutrition in weakening tooth and tissue health, as well as the relationship between diet and oral halitosis. By linking nutrition to oral and systemic health, this work emphasizes the importance of adopting integrated dietary and dental care practices to promote overall well being.
