Enhancing Bayombong Daycare Teacher's Pedagogical Skills: Bridging Implications for a Relevant Extension Program

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study determined the number of child development workers/teachers in the Day CareCenters of Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, who needed pedagogical support across the StandardsCompetency of Child Development Workers. It identified specific areas where these educatorsrequire further support or training to effectively deliver quality and relevant childcare services.Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research combined a survey and an interview to gatherdata from a total of eighteen child development workers in Bayombong day care centers.Findings reveal that while many workers demonstrate baseline competence in core areas of earlychildhood development, there are critical gaps in understanding developmental characteristics, implementing health and safety protocols, and identifying children at risk for developmentaldelays. Moreover, opportunities for professional development, such as seminars and training, were found to be limited and infrequent. These gaps underscore the urgent need for sustained, high-quality professional developmentprograms tailored to the evolving needs of early childhood educators. The results of this studycontribute to broader discussions on improving the quality of early childhood education incommunity-based settings and may serve as a basis for future policy-making, curriculumdevelopment, and targeted training initiatives. Keywords: child development, developmental characteristics, professional development
