Benefits and Challenges of Digitalizing Education for Teachers and Students: The Case of Foreign Language Training

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study aims to identify the advantages and disadvantages of digitalization from the perspectives of students and teachers, as well as its impact on learning effectiveness. A range of methods, including analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, survey, testing, as well as statistical and logical comparison, were employed. To determine the effectiveness of distance learning and online learning platforms, 98 students at a Ukrainian state university were tested after completing an elective course. To determine the advantages and disadvantages of digital technologies from the perspectives of students and teachers, an online survey was conducted with 98 students and 39 teachers. The results of the tests indicated the effectiveness of the online learning platform as an auxiliary tool for a face-to-face course. However, there was no difference between the test results and the form of education (face-to-face, distance, or hybrid). Among the advantages of digital technologies, teachers noted the automation of processes, assistance in visualizing educational materials, and access to scientific sources. Students noted the convenience of distance learning, the clarity of video materials, and the ability to use learning materials at any time thanks to mobile applications, online platforms, and artificial intelligence. The disadvantages of using most information technologies in education were high cost, unreliable personal data protection, and the risk of dishonesty.
