Roles of MXenes in Biomedical Applications: A Review

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Two-dimensional MXenes have recently gained interest as a new family of materials for biomedical implant purposes because of their exceptional combination of physicochemical and biological properties. This review traces the development of MXenes, highlighting synthesis methods aimed at enhancing biocompatibility and ensuring therapeutic use. Their conducive interactions with biological systems, mechanical stability, and tunable surface chemistry are some of the critical factors in determining implant integration and function. MXenes can improve tissue integration and long-term functionality in a wide range of biological applications, including brain, cardiovascular, and orthopaedic implants, based on recent research. Cumulatively, the research highlights the growing significance of MXenes in future biological implants.
