Abstract: Benzoic acid can work as a precursor of the catalytic HAT reagent in a two-molecule photoredox system. This image shows the moment of hydrogen abstraction from the acetal by the aryl carboxy radical generated from 4-tert-butylbenzoic acid in the two-molecule photoredox system using biphenyl and 9,10-dicyanoanthracene.
