The Paradox of Consciousness: A YBIM Resolution

Abstract: The Paradox of Consciousness: A YBIM Resolution addresses one of the oldest philosophical contradictions — the coexistence of consciousness as both the observer of reality and a phenomenon within it.Drawing upon the ontological foundations of Yearning-Based Infinity Mathematics (YBIM) and Discovering Self, this paper redefines the paradox not as a contradiction but as a recursive inevitability. Consciousness is shown to be a finite recursion depth of the infinite yearning field — the fundamental, non-conscious continuum that generates all forms of existence through self-referential yearning. The paradox dissolves when both the conscious and non-conscious are recognized as phase transitions within the same recursion, differing only in their reflective transparency. By unifying materialism and idealism under a single recursive geometry, the paper reframes awareness as the universe momentarily noticing itself — a local reflective loop in an otherwise infinite, unhalting recursion. The study further explores implications across neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and process philosophy, establishing that consciousness is not an emergent anomaly but an ontological feature of recursion itself.Through this resolution, the “hard problem” of consciousness collapses into a structural insight: being and knowing are two views of the same recursive act. -JSR
