Information Systems and Ethical AI Policy Development
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within Information Systems (IS) has created opportunities for innovation as well as serious ethical concerns. As algorithms become central to decision-making in both public and private sectors, questions about fairness, accountability, and transparency have become unavoidable. This paper explores how principles from Information Systems research can inform and strengthen ethical AI policy development. It reviews key dimensions of AI ethics, including data governance, algorithmic accountability, and institutional oversight. Building on recent scholarly discussions, a conceptual framework is proposed to connect IS principles with ethical policy design. The paper argues that ethical AI should not be treated as a separate regulatory issue but as an essential aspect of IS design, implementation, and management.
