R code and data supporting the results of Antorán et al: "Indirect interactions driven by soil effects enable coexistence among competing plant species"
Year: 2016
Type: article
Abstract: This dataset accompanies experiments and analyses investigating how tree-induced soil effects mediate indirect interactions between two competing shrub species.Changes in soil microbial communities, metabolites, and nutrient composition driven by the tree Quercus pyrenaica were found to reduce germination in the dominant shrub while enhancing growth in the weaker competitor. These interactions, explored through experiments, field observational data, and individual-based simulations, reveal that indirect interactions driven by soil effects can stabilize coexistence among competing plant species and reproduce natural spatial patterns.
