The Infinite Symmetry: On the Illusion of Scale and the Fallibility of Human Physics
Year: 2025
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Humanity’s understanding of the universe is haunted by a quiet conceit — the belief that our scale of perception coincides with the universe’s scale of truth. We speak of “big” and “small” as though these adjectives describe reality itself rather than our position within it. We call galaxies immense and atoms minuscule, never realizing that these are merely reflections of our size, not measures of the cosmos. This thesis argues that there is no absolute magnitude — no universal standard of “large” or “tiny” — only relationships of proportion. The quantum and the cosmic are not realms of different order but perspectives of the same infinite continuum. The failure of classical physics to describe subatomic phenomena reveals not the disorder of the universe but the limitation of the observer. The laws of reality do not break down at smaller scales; the human mind does. The universe, in truth, is infinitely symmetrical — every layer mirroring the same order through different degrees of perception. “Scale” is the illusion born from finitude; “mystery” is the shadow cast by human arrogance upon the light of infinite coherence.
