Abstract: A special comment must be made regarding all the illustrations included in this volume. In a collection of essays whose authors discuss works of art so closely, these illustrations are absolutely indispensable.Although the images are in black and white, the resolution is quite good.As a result, the reader's ability to follow along with the discussion is assisted substantially. One would be hard-pressed to find faults in a book as fine and necessary as this one, and I will not attempt to do so.My sole quibble has nothing to do with the substance of this volume as such, but ironically pertains to art-it focuses on the production of the paperback issue which I reviewed. It has long been a T&T Clark tradition to recommend thematically related volumes (usually, from the same monograph series) in a dedicated bar on the back cover of the sleeve.Typically, two to three volumes are recommended in this manner (which is quite helpful). The way in which this is done is by printing full images of the recommended books' front covers. However, because the bar is so small, a high resolution is needed if one is to be able to read the actual titles. In this paperback copy, the images were both small and blurred. Not many will be able to read the recommended titles.T&T Clark's production team would do well to look into this problem. This decidedly small and non-substance-related quibble aside, the present volume is, of course, most highly recommended in whatever format the reader can obtain it.The book will be of benefit to a wide range of readers, from academics to laypersons.
