Ground Based Light Curve Follow-Up Validation Observations of TOI 3772.01

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: With the George Mason University (GMU) Campus Telescope, we evaluate the transit candidacy of TESS Object of Interest (TOI) 3772.01. The target was observed during a predicted transiting period on December 12th, 2023 UTC using an R filter and 85-s science exposure times. A subset of images was culled for quality issues, and standard calibration such as dark subtraction, plate solving, and aperture photometry were performed in AstroImageJ. To generate a light curve, the detrending parameters were Sky_Pixel and tot_C_cnts, and we executed a NEB (Nearby Eclipsing Binary) search. The final detrended light curve exhibits a shallow, transit-like depression coincident in time with the predicted event window. The reference stars’ light curves seemed consistent through the transiting period, and the root-mean-square (RMS) scatter of the relative flux time series was fairly low, 0.00611. However, several cautionary indicators persist: (i) a significant pointing “jump” late in the sequence, (ii) occasional plate-solving failures, (iii) numerous neighbors not fully cleared by the NEB analysis, and (iv) a contemporaneous dip in the Sky_Pixel diagnostic. The observation is suggestive but not dispositive; we classify the event as inconclusive. We suggest follow-up experimentation that emphasizes multiple nights and additional observers such as JWST of this target.
