Ground-based light curve follow-up validation observations of TESS object of interest TOI 3779.01

Type: article
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine whether the TESS object of interest TOI 3779.01 is an exoplanet. Images of the exoplanet candidate were collected from the George Mason University Observatory on 2/12/23. After collecting observational measurements from the NASA Exoplanet Archive, we reduced and plate solved the collected images through the AstroImageJ software and conducted multi-aperture photometry to generate a light curve. In the light curve, a clear dip in the flux of our target star was seen roughly corresponding to the predicted ingress and egress times, indicating that TOI 3779.01 is likely an exoplanet. Based on calculations from the transit depth equation and analysis of the planetary parameters, we classified our candidate as a Hot Jupiter. Further ground-based research, including false-positive probability computations and multi-color transit photometry, is needed to confirm our candidate as an exoplanet.
