Ground-based Follow-up Observations of TOI 5944.01

Type: article
Abstract: In this paper, TESS Object of Interest 5944.01 was observed. A partial transit had been observed in previous ground-based follow-up observations, after which the timing of the transit was revised. Our observations aimed to confirm this timing and check for nearby eclipsing binary systems. The target was observed using the 0.8 meter telescope at George Mason University, and flat and dark images were also taken. The images were then reduced, and multi-aperture photometry was performed, all in AstroImageJ. Analysis of the likelihood of various transit-producing scenarios using data collected by TESS was also conducted, using the Python library TRICERATOPS. Our light curve contained a dip at the expected time, with a depth similar to that predicted by TESS. The transit model fit the data well, with an RMS of 14.09 and a χ2/dof of 1.65. The NEB check was inconclusive, with many of the nearby stars being too dim. The TRICERATOPS analysis gave a 33% probability of a false positive. Overall, our candidate is very likely, but not certainly, a planet, and spectroscopy and a mass measurement should be performed.
