C-ing The Future: Ascorbic Acids in Thermal Paper Technology

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: In the Philippines, thermal paper rolls are used in everyday transaction. "Based on the analysis done by WIOEH, out of 53 analyzed samples of thermal receipts, 32 had BPA concentrations ranging from 0.92 to 1.86 percent, while 13 samples showed 0.61 to 1.12 percent BPS concentrations, the European Union has regulated BPA/BPS concentration, limiting it to only 0.02 percent" (Iona Finlay C. Mendoza, 2022). This paper explores the potential of Ascorbic Acid derivatives as a replacement for the BPA/BPS Thermal Paper Rolls used in the thermal paper industry. Furthermore, this explore the market industry of thermal paper, rolls, its possibility in direct thermal printers and its over-all usage to be less harmful in health and the environment. Nevertheless, data has been provided for experimental group of cashiers who have contacted with thermal paper rolls.
