Transforming poultry science for safer, healthier & sustainable egg production
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Eggs are among the most complete and affordable sources of high-quality protein, essential amino acids, and vital micronutrients for human nutrition. As global demand increases, poultry science is rapidly evolving to make egg production safer, healthier, and more sustainable. Modern biosecurity measures, vaccination programs, and hygienic egg handling techniques ensure consumer safety by reducing the risk of microbial contamination. Nutritional innovations, such as omega-3, vitamin-enriched, and probiotic eggs, address public health needs and add functional value to traditional diets. Simultaneously, sustainable production systems focus on precision feeding, renewable energy use, and efficient manure management to minimize environmental impact. Advancements in animal welfare practices and the adoption of smart technologies like artificial intelligence, sensors, and blockchain are redefining efficiency and transparency in the poultry sector. Together, these developments strengthen food security, consumer trust, and environmental stewardship. Transforming poultry science thus represents a critical step toward achieving a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future for global egg production.
