Phase-Coherent Closed Surface Reflection: Unified Geometry of Metallic Luster in Metals, Shells, and Insects

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This paper presents a unified geometric interpretation of metallic and iridescent luster across metals, beetle shells, pearls, and carbon-based materials through the framework of Closed Surface Theory. It proposes that gloss and reflectivity originate not from free electrons alone but from phase-coherent reflection on continuous closed surfaces. From the coherent electron layers of metals to the multilayered chitin structures of beetles and the aragonite-conchiolin layering of pearls, all exhibit the same fundamental principle: ordered micro-surfaces that maintain phase continuity. Even graphite and diamond demonstrate this rule through π-electron planes and sp³-lattice continuity. The study suggests that artificially fabricated materials with phase-ordered micro-scale patterns could replicate metallic gloss and conductivity, bridging materials science, optics, and geometry under a single unified principle of surface coherence.
