Abstract: Wilken, Robert L. The Spirit of Early Christian Thought: Seeking the Face of God for Now (New Haven, CT: Yale University Press, 2005). Wilken's lovely, wide-ranging book sympathetically follows early Christianity's theological and intellectual development. Following his thematic approach, I will focus consideration and integration on religious insight from chapter 1 ("Founded Upon the Cross of Christ"), ecclesiological challenge from chapter 2 ("An Awesome and Unbloody Sacrifice"), hermeneutical re-framing from chapter 3 ("The Face of God For Now") and heartwarming insights from Hilary of Poitiers in chapter 4 ("Seek His Face Always").
