Ksar Maggaman dans la vallée de Ghéris : contribution de la tradition orale à la reconstitution socio-historique

Abstract: This article aims to introduce one of the ksour (fortified villages) of the Gheris Oasis, namely the Ksar of Maggaman. This ksar, along with its inhabitants, holds a special and distinguished status among all the ksour of the oasis, and even those in neighboring areas. Relying on oral narratives and field visits as an approach to strengthen this paper led us to explore historical writings with the aim of using them as a fundamental complement to balance the information obtained. The Ksar of Maggaman, with its fortified architecture, strategic geographical location, and a population with unique tribal, political, and artisanal characteristics, played an important historical and political role as a makhzen garrison and a key point for securing routes and suppressing uprisings.
