Ehe als Ansatz frühislamischer theologischer (Re)Form - Marriage as an Approach to Early Islamic Theological (Re)Form
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Islam and Islamic religious texts show a special interest in the subject of marriage. Islam, as a reform movement and religion, made it its goal to improve the situation and status of women in society. The Prophet Muhammad recognized the importance of independent strong women in establishing the new religious community. At the same time, Islam in this early phase was understood as a continuity and reform of earlier Abrahamic religions, i.e. Judaism and Christianity, which the Qur’an refers to in various passages. The article “Marriage as an approach to early Islamic reform” addresses the topic of marriage and matrimony in Islam from an Islamic theological perspective, with a particular focus on the legal regimes of marriage in proximate relationships in early Islamic legal sources.
