The Role of Optimism in Building Mental Resilience
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This qualitative review examines the role of optimism in fostering psychological resilience, emphasizing the mediating influence of adaptive coping strategies, emotional regulation, and self-awareness. Synthesizing insights from contemporary psychological research, the paper argues that optimism functions as a motivational resource that encourages engagement with challenges rather than avoidance. However, its effectiveness in promoting resilience depends on the individual’s capacity for self-reflection and contextual understanding. The discussion integrates theoretical and empirical perspectives to propose a conceptual framework illustrating how optimism interacts with coping mechanisms to enhance emotional stability. By highlighting the dynamic and context-dependent nature of resilience, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of how positive psychological traits support sustainable mental well-being. Keywords: optimism, coping strategies, psychological resilience, emotional regulation, self-awareness, well-being, positive psychology.
