Abstract: Participation in decision-making is the common theme of the three articles to be discussed; decision-making in areas that concern the political sphere while also challenging the traditional private-public divide, with a particular focus on religion and gender. What is equality based on? Who is included in decision-making processes, and who is excluded? Which power relations determine these processes, and how are they related to freedom? These are the questions the three articles try to address for collective groups in Eastern European regions unsettled by political transitions at various points during the long twentieth century.
