Year: 2024

Type: article

Abstract: This article, published in the Queer-Feminist Science & Technology Studies Forum (Vol. 9, December 2024), documents the creation and evolution of the GAIA Gartenberg women*’s garden in Graz, Austria, as part of the Horizon Europe project PLANET4B. The paper explores the garden as a queer-feminist, intersectional, and transdisciplinary intervention in biodiversity research. The authors reflect on how, through co-creative and participatory approaches, gardening can foster empowerment, community building, and alternative knowledge practices among women* in precarious social positions. The paper illustrates how the women*’s garden became both a site of food production and a safe space for experimenting with inclusive, multispecies, and feminist forms of transformative change.
