Application of Augmented Reality Technologies in Architecture and Design

Abstract: This study is devoted to the analysis of the innovative potential of augmented reality (AR) technologies in the context of their integration into architectural design and construction process management. The relevance of the work is due to the growing demand for digitalization of industry, where AR acts as a tool for the transformation of traditional visualization methods, coordination of work and communication between project participants. The key achievement highlighted in the research is the ability of AR solutions to generate interactive, highly detailed models that are projected onto physical space with millimeter accuracy. This method, based on the synthesis of computer vision and spatial analysis, allows architects and customers to visualize objects in real scale and context, which fundamentally changes the approach to evaluating design solutions. As the data from the experimental part of the work demonstrate, this practice reduces the frequency of errors in the perception of spatial relationships by 27% (compared with classic 2D drawings) and speeds up the design approval process by 40%. An important aspect of the novelty is the development of adaptive adjustment algorithms that integrate into AR platforms. These algorithms, tested for the first time in the framework of the study, automatically identify discrepancies between digital models and the physical environment, offering optimization solutions in real time. This approach not only minimizes the risks of material overruns but also provides flexibility when making changes to a project at a later stage, which was previously considered technically impossible.
