Type: article
Abstract: The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks a transformative milestone in India’s educational framework, introducing comprehensive reforms from elementary to higher education. The policy envisions the establishment of an equitable and vibrant knowledge society by promoting multidisciplinary learning, flexibility in curriculum, and inclusivity in access. Focused particularly on higher education, NEP 2020 aims to address structural inefficiencies, promote autonomy, ensure global competitiveness, and integrate technology for lifelong learning. This paper explores the key provisions of NEP 2020 with a detailed analysis of its implications for higher education in India—ranging from institutional restructuring and regulatory reforms to digital learning, research enhancement, and internationalization. It also examines the implementation strategies and emerging challenges while highlighting NEP’s potential to position India as a global education hub.
