Performance Evaluation of Pneumatic Brake Systems
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Pneumatic braking systems are widely employed in heavy vehicles and industrial applications due to their reliability, safety, and ease of operation. This research presents an experimental investigation into the performance of pneumatic brakes under varying operating conditions. The study aims to evaluate braking efficiency, response time, air pressure characteristics, and thermal effects during repeated braking cycles. A laboratory-scale experimental setup was designed to simulate real-world braking scenarios, and performance parameters such as stopping distance, braking force, and pressure build-up time were systematically recorded. The results indicate that brake efficiency strongly depends on operating pressure, temperature rise, and maintenance of pneumatic components. Comparative analysis demonstrates the system’s effectiveness in achieving consistent braking force while highlighting limitations under prolonged use, such as pressure loss and reduced response time. The findings contribute to improving design, operation, and maintenance strategies for pneumatic braking systems, ensuring safer and more energy-efficient transportation.
