The role of topical insulin in neurotrophic keratitis
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Neurotrophic keratitis (NK) is characterized by a reduction or loss of corneal sensations caused by partial or total loss of function of the trigeminal nerve, which is the V cranial nerve. Currently published studies clearly show promising results of insulin eye drops in NK. Its cost-effectiveness, ease of procurement, and administration, coupled with its effectivity and safety profile at various concentrations, mandate that we, as an ophthalmic fraternity, implement the use of topical insulin in NK.
