Generative Ai and the Next Frontier of Teaching and Learning in Universities
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The integration of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbots, such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, is transforming higher education institutions (HEIs) by enhancing student support, administrative efficiency, and research processes. This study examines the future implications of generative AI chatbots in HEIs, focusing on their potential impact on teaching, learning, and research. Using a narrative literature review (NLR) methodology, the study synthesizes findings from academic databases and scholarly publications. The results indicate that generative AI chatbots can streamline administrative tasks, improve student learning experiences, and support research activities. However, challenges including academic integrity concerns, limitations in understanding user input, and resource allocation must be addressed for effective adoption. The study emphasizes the need for ethical guidelines, comprehensive stakeholder training, and responsible implementation strategies. By proactively navigating these challenges, HEIs can maximize the benefits of generative AI chatbots, fostering a more efficient, inclusive, and innovative educational environment.
