Pharmacogenomics: The Intersection of Genomics, Pharmacology, and Clinical Medicine
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Pharmacogenomics, the study of how genetic variations affect an individual's response to drugs, has emerged as a crucial field in modern medicine. By integrating genomics, pharmacology, and clinical medicine, pharmacogenomics aims to personalize treatment strategies, improve drug efficacy, and reduce adverse reactions. This review article provides an overview of the current state of pharmacogenomics, highlighting its applications in clinical practice, drug development, and precision medicine. We discuss the key concepts, methodologies, and technologies driving the field, including genome-wide association studies, next generation sequencing, and machine learning algorithms. Furthermore, we examine the challenges and opportunities in translating pharmacogenomics research into clinical practice, including the need for standardized guidelines, regulatory frameworks, and education for healthcare professionals. By exploring the intersection of genomics, pharmacology, and clinical medicine, this article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of pharmacogenomics and its potential to transform the way we approach patient care.
