The Living Fault Lines: 125 Years On — What Still Matters, What Has Faded, and the New Risks Within Australia's Constitution

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Australia’s Constitution, 125 years after Federation, remains a remarkably resilient framework, yet its silences on technology, environment, and fiscal balance expose the nation to new systemic risks. Drawing on The Lost Constitution (Expanded Edition) and the RSQS-6D framework, this paper identifies what still matters—rule of law, federal balance, judicial integrity—what has faded—industrial-age clauses and fiscal dependence—and what emerging risks threaten resilience to 2050. It proposes measured renewal through technological sovereignty, environmental stewardship, and re-balanced federal finance to safeguard Australia’s constitutional stability in the digital era.
