Feasibility study on in-situ development of cement-based materials from lunar regolith
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Cement based composite materials are the most widely used materials in existing surface construction technologies due to their excellent mechanical and durability properties. Utilizing in-situ lunar resources to develop building materials for base construction is a key technology for deep space exploration. This article comprehensively analyzes the principles, technical directions, and feasibility of the development of lunar soil cement-based materials based on existing building materials science and technology. It analyzes the differences in lunar soil cement-based materials for different lunar morphologies (mare, highland, mare-highland), and combines the differences in chemical composition and mass proportion. Highland lunar soil samples are more suitable as materials for producing Portland cement, while lunar soil at the junction of mare, mare-highland is more suitable for producing sulfoaluminate cement. The applicability of cement-based materials in the construction of lunar bases under the influence of surface environment is also explored.
